"BECAUSE WE CARE....."

This is a small group within our church that is dedicated to community service in our area. We are a newly formed group and are still in the process of organizing planned events. We have recently signed a contract with the State Department of Transportation to pick up litter twice yearly along two miles of U.S. 61 on the south end of the city. We will help with the City of Burlington's annual Paint-a-Thon, serve meals at the Salvation Army and assist them with their Christmas kettles by bell ringing, and help the city by painting picnic tables at the park. In the event the city/county is successful in establishing a hiking/biking trail to Big Hollow Recreation Area, we may assist with labor in the construction of the trail. We are establishing liaison with the Senior High Youth Group for their members to earn points towards the Silver Cord Award. Two banners are currently on order that will be placed on site during work projects. These banners will read "Because We Care...First Presbyterian Church, Burlington, Iowa." Our planned meetings are scheduled the first Wednesday of the month, 6:00 PM at the church. The meetings are usually short and all are welcome to attend. We welcome any ideas for community service projects. Contact Chair Carl Boley (752-4836), or Vice-Chair Ed Whitmore (752-0468) for further information.
